So the foot is healed - and now I have to morph. I will say the first few weeks are the worst (mostly adjusting) and then it's plain sailing - lots of physio- but overall an easy ride...
What to do - where to go? Maybe just a track of travels and life instead.
I am now at the tail end of a series of january trips - yes the year has turned - and just saw my pregnant sister for a week. All is well with her. It was amazing to see the belly she has (8.5 months) and amazing to watch the little alien kick away...
am about to hop on a flight to head back to london and see my lovely girlfriend again - i really miss her!
the trip was good - some odd moments of self exploration and a bit of a realisation has made me my usual pensive 'airport' state. The nice thing - I can blog at this one! A nice way to shift from a blog about an appendage to one about a trivial meaningless series of drivel that is of interest only to me! :) One day perhaps someone will find it- guess future archeology is a whole different type of data game!
Right - well I am going to find some food - eat a little and then head over to my gate!
May you all out there (whatever year this is found) enjoy the drivel!

Do Blogs Die?
OOPS - forgot to post this one...
ENJOW!
So they suggest after 2 posts the worst is behind you - either the blog dies or you morph into an even less interesting subject than my fifth metatarsal... life itself.
Let me stay on subject for a minute and give you the run down of 16 weeks to recovery:
week 1 - break - doctors - pain - swelling - dirty colours and disgusting casts.
week 2 - sit on sofa - get an aircast - boring (except for when the cut the temp cast off which is quite fun and itchy)
week 3 - sit on sofa - go stir crazy
week 4 - sit on sofa - strange stench appears
week 5 - sit on sofa - boring
week 6 - taxi heaven - back at work lots of sympathy
week 7 - try to go to the pub - spend the entire day there because you cant be bothered to crutch back - hands hurt
week 8 - cast off!! try and go into work - attempted a walk to work (30 minutes normally) give up after ten - back in taxi heaven
week 9 - still in taxi's bored of the same story from every cabbie
week 10 - compare cabbie stories - find joy in the little details
week 11 - oh dear - pls - no more taxi stories
week 12 - walk all the way to work
week 13 - 16 - physio physio physio - Back to near full strength - learn to balance again on one foot - joy...

Colours, Showers, Girlfriends, and Work
So a week of sitting on my sofa has changed nothing. I am still in a cast - all be it an aircast version - I have learnt some interesting new skills (more on that in a minute) but generally I have just sat and got fat (yes I was fat before but now I am also lumpy and soft to go with it!)
I have seen a multitude of colour on my foot, the way it starts is by swelling - then it goes yellow and brown and then, just when you think it cant look any more disgusting a stream of what must be trauma blood from the day of the accident litterly leaks into your foot - through it from top to bottom - all the way into your heel. Yuk. The doctor didnt tell me much about that...
On a more positive note:
Top skills learnt:
Showering with a cast - think chairs, garbage bags and rope - no pictures of that one (I have them but keeping those for my girlfriend only!)
Hopping - a great skill if you cant be arsed with crutches every step - painful but you do get good at it after 7 days of hopping . I could win any hopping contest known to man at the moment.
Cooking whilst setting your jeans on fire - Unexpected yes - however a real danger if you have to keep your leg elevated next to the gas hob cooker...
Dressing and Undressing - never seemed so hard. Think wiggle - think large - comfortable clothing - mind you at least that fits!
Other things I have learnt:
Girlfriends - let me all tell you - ensure you have one if you're planning to break your foot - if not - get one urgently. They are a life saver. The internet can cover a lot of angles - but when you need a little love, some help and a pint of milk it's not the greatest at being able to deliver these instantly.
Work - dont try to go too early. I feel like a caged animal most days in the flat - but let me tell you that work is no better. Instead of a caged animal you can now be a spectacle for all and still be expected to get stuff done. Besides that - it's not the work time that is the problem - getting into and out of work is nearly impossible... Painful to say the least.
Ok - that's it for this post - promise to get a little more active!

metatarsal
There's a word I was never likely to be able to spell... Metatarsal. 5th to be exact. So today is day two of my post break, lying around the house, 6 weeks of what will sure be a roller-coaster of emotion.
does it hurt? not really - throbs more than anything
whats the worst bit? you mean besides the blue toes? the continuos leg above your heart advice, which yes, you must follow.
anyhow - a blog to track my progress and let me share the joys of a 5th metatarsal break (mid - acute - twisted).
I am hoping to make it out of my flat today - start with small objectives i guess.
